A time for bonding

Last Sunday, my son and I spent a great afternoon visiting the MET Museum.  This was only his second time at the MET so I was very excited to show him around.  Our first stop was at the Temple of Dendur and doing a sketch of "Perseus with the Head of Medusa" at the European Sculpture section was our last.

Last holiday, he asked for some sketching lessons as a present.  Glad that we did our first last Sunday and hope to do some more in the near future.

A nice view from my desk

Today was sunny and seasonably cold.  Quite a departure from the string of warmer days we've had recently.  From my desk, there's a view of the mostly glass office building complex across the apartment.  It was nice to shift and train my eyes out the balcony door from time to time when it feels tired from working in front of the computer.  The sun was setting low and the reflection from the glass building was now in my face.  I thought it would be nice to sketch it, so I did.  It felt nice to have used the Escoda brushes this time.

Practice more

This Escoda Synthetic Watercolor Travel Brush set in Red canvas pouch sat on my desk waiting to be used more.  Last night, I sketched it directly in watercolor.

Doctor, where art thou?

My annual physical checkup exam took forever!  Got there on time but it took much longer to be seen by my doctor.  Initially, I thought my appointment would be a breeze but alas, no.  Good thing I brought my sketchbook to keep me company.  Drawing Folds was the NYC USk theme this week so it was just fitting to sketch my clothes hanging by the door.  Waiting then was no longer a concern.

(#NUS) San Miguel de Allende, Mexico

Last week's virtual sketch destination for the NYC Urban Sketchers was this "magical place" of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.  For the morning session, our walking tour provided many interesting sights of brightly colored houses along the cobble stone roads of this historic city.  There's no shortage of subjects to sketch but I narrowed my selection to this picture of brightly lit Parroqia de San Miguel Archangel at night.  It turned out that our afternoon session would be focused on this Baroque style church and the nearby park. Overall, it was a fun day to spend with my sketcher community.  San Miguel de Allende should be included in my list places I want to visit someday and get lost in its beauty and charm.

Wait Then Sketch

During last Christmas holiday rush, she went inside the Target store to pickup her online order.  I stayed behind the wheel where I saw this open parking spot scene. In the 10 minutes she was away, I saw another shopper put away something in the car trunk before pulling out of the tight parking spot.

Main Street Scene

2021-01-03, Sunday.  Got out of the house late in the morning and took a drive to downtown Port Chester, NY.  It was a bit chilly to be sketching outside so I just stayed inside the mobile studio (car).  I used the side mirror of the parked car in front as a starting point to this sketch and branched out from there.  Nice to see a local Westchester bus pulled in and picked up some passengers.  I thought it would be fun to include it in this sketch.  Ballpoint sketch on site.  Watercolor wash added at home.
