A view from the South Cove Park

A Sunday sketch outing with the NYC USk group.  We met at the South Cove Park in Lower Manhattan.  It has a nice view of the Hudson River and the One World Trade Center tower.  Here is my attempt to play with a pre-marked page and making the scene fit into it.

A view near 45th Street and Vanderbilt Ave

I ended up sketching this view three blocks north of the Grand Central Terminal instead of joining the group at the MET Museum outing yesterday.  The weather was cool and sunny so it was just the perfect weather to be outside.  Made the random marks on my sketchbook and carefully integrated the scene before me.

The Harrison Train Station

I started to "sketch wait" this scene sometime back in March and, on occasion, would fill in some more as I wait for my morning train to the city.  I like the blue sky and what came out of this "random pre-marked" page.  Today, I went back to the spot and picked up a few more details before saying to myself, "It's done!"

Dance Party at Bryant Park

There were two instances of the Dance Party tutorial sessions held this month at Bryant Park.  This was a quick sketch practice before catching my train ride home.  It was a good exercise to capture and learn how to sketch such a complex and fun scene in a short period of time.  Unfortunately, the Dance Party session was declared over for the (spring?) season as of yesterday.  Looking forward to discovering what Bryant Park has in store next for the summer season.

Japan Fes in NYC

The 2nd Japan festival in NYC was held last Saturday at W 71st St and Columbus Ave. There were plenty of food vendors and things to see. This year's festivity Grand Marshall was Kristi Yamaguchi. The food I tried was a Spicy Chicken Misukastu Bun at Wasan Brooklyn food stall. There was a wait line but "sketch waiting" was my companion until it was my turn at the register. Three men working the stall: Toshi at the register, Kaku and Marvin manning the "kitchen". Shortly after, I took a walk toward the grandstand and I was happy sketching the scene before me.

At 101 Park Avenue public area

I like this street corner scene by the 101 Park Avenue address.   This was looking toward west of Park Avenue.  Made the black marks on site one day and little by little, I added more to the sketch each time I come back to view the scene.  Today, I decided to finish it.  Sort of.  If I don't come back to it again another time.

A Cello Performance at the Yale Art Gallery

We went to see a free music performance at the Yale University Art Gallery last weekend.  I had a good look of the museum patrons and visitors waiting for the show to start.  Soon, the cellist (Miriam) started playing beautiful music.  I partially finished the sketch sans the music piece stand just before she went on a set break.  I showed her the sketch and she was delighted to see it.  She also draws and she's happy that someone made a sketch of her.  "No one has sketched me before." she said.
