Fleet Week
Last Saturday, the NYC Urban Sketchers met at Pier 84, closest to the greater concentration of naval ships docked at Piers 86 and 88, near the Intrepid Aircraft Carrier (now a museum). I sketched the Intrepid using limited watercolor and I also did a sketch of the cruise liner.

Sunday Self Portraits
I made two self portraits (none of my likeness) this past weekend. The grey one was made using gouache and the other, watercolor. Lots of experimenting and lots of work needed to get comfortable with both media.

Along Oneida Drive
There's a nice view of the Smith Cove along a road side clearing on Oneida Drive. I pulled off to a spot to sketch this scene Sunday morning after mass. Later, I added some watercolor wash once I got home.

The Tire Center
Half of the front parking at the Town Fair Tire center in Stamford was closed for repaving yesterday when I went there for my car tire rotation. I was told a good hour of waiting before my car will be serviced. I don't mind waiting anymore as long as I have my sketchbook. At the adjacent property, a shaded patch of green allowed me a slightly elevated point of view.

The Cafe at Pershing Square
I found a spot by the front covered entrance of the Grand Central Terminal. It was a rainy Monday evening before heading home that I began this sketch. About 12 mins or so. On the way to work and before heading home days after, I'd spend about 10 minutes adding to my sketch. And now I think it's done.

Commuter Sketch Series 17
Here are a few more commuter sketches done in the last few days. I was just not keeping up with my blog posts but I'm still sketching. I figured there's so much commuter sketches of the same thing. Oh well....

Daily sketching
I've been keeping up with my daily sketching except that it's been mostly about people sketches lately. Also, I've not been able to keep up with my blog posts. Anyway, I'll just lump up the line drawings I've done in the last several days.
Here's what I sketched last weekend while waiting at the bakery.

Sunday Self Portrait
I saved some kid's crayola acrylic paints from the trash heap and decided it would be nice to play around with this for my self portrait. No pencil mark, just straight painting on the mixed media paper. Hah! I've never tried painting myself before but I thought it's a good painting exercise. Nothing close to my likeness here. The more I try to "fix" it, the murkier it gets. I used a tripod and a home made portable easel while l glance at the mirror.

Commuter Sketch Series 16
I have been sketching almost daily on my commute to the city and back but haven't had the chance to do regular post on this blog like I used to. Anyway, here are my sketches from May 6-9, 2019. It's a new sketchbook so I'm still trying to see what pen will work for me. The Bic pen seem to be good with this paper.

The GCT Train Schedule board
I just missed the 10:09PM train and the next one was at 10:44PM. Construction replacement of the train schedule display board was happening at the time. It was a good time to sketch it while waiting for my next train. I asked one of the supervisors about the new display which is like bright and clear type. I still remember the flip-type ones that was there before 1991. Oh, the nostalgia for the old ones.

New Sketchbook
Yesterday, I brought a new, grey color pocket size Leuchtturm 1917 sketchbook for a day trip to Deerfield Academy. While waiting at the school, I tried to sketch this scene before me.

Drawing the hands
Yesterday, I was on the next semi-express train to the city because I was running late getting out of the house. Of course, there wasn't any open seats available until the train came to its first stop at Fordham station.

The Heavy Machineries
A short walk from the station, construction work has started to clear the little park of trees today. I saw the heavy machineries gathered near the old parking lot for days now. They were very active this morning as I watch and waited from across my train platform. This evening on the way home, I saw the fallen trees to my sadness. Well, to document it, I realized I have a yellow watercolor pencil in my bag so I did a quick sketch of the machineries for about 15 minutes.
