A corner building

A few days before I started at my new job, I went out on a sketching trip locally.  I found this open parking spot from across this nice building three doors next to The Capitol Theater in Port Chester, NY.  I thought I was going to add some watercolor wash on this fairly decent drawing but I wasn't up to it.  So  back to doing what is comfortable which means doing a lot of shading with the ballpoint pen.

Summer dining scene

The downtown Rye Purchase Street was closed off from vehicular traffic and outdoor dining tables were allowed to be set up at street level scene for several of the restaurant establishments.  Further away, we found a bench that was good enough to do my sketch.

A view from my window

Today's sketch is a stack of Adirondack style plastic chairs neatly placed on the terrace as seen from the window.

At lunch break

A common picnic table located in one corner of the front parking lot at work was the perfect spot to enjoy lunch and sketch a portion of this adjacent building.  I clipped a piece of paper towel on the top right corner of my sketch book so it was easy to dab the excess ink.  It's a love/hate relationship with this leaky brush pen filled with diluted DeAtramentis black ink.  Finished the sketch over two days work.

A view from the parking lot

I started a new job last week.  It is less than 15 minutes away from where I live so I'm very happy about that.  Although my half-hour lunch break is short, I still integrate my sketching during that time.  It took me seven days at lunch break to complete this scene from my parking spot.

The Park Bench

I found this park bench to be a good study.  Made my lines first before applying the grey wash from this leaky brush pen (see the left underside of the bench stray mark).  A frequent dab against a piece of paper towel help remove the excess ink.  The additional line markings were made on several down times like the wait at a doctor's office.  I think the last minute addition of shadows on the bench made it more interesting.

An Old Barn, two years later.

I sketched this building two years ago when I went to see my eye doctor in Ridgefield, CT but on this occasion I chose the taller side of it.  Using a brush pen, I mapped out a plan to fit as much details as I could on this sketchbook page.  I like how monochromatic this sketch has turned out.

Bold Random Lines Series #4

This was a scene at the corner of 5th Avenue and 37th Street near work.  It was the New Year's Eve, our office had closed two hours early, the pedestrians and motorists were being redirected by the police at this intersection.

Folds and Creases

In mid March, three days after our office shut down, I was working from home and found time to sketch this sofa sleeper with a cover draped on it.  I thought it was a good subject to sketch with my favorite fine tipped fountain pen.

Railroad Track Maintenance

Monday, June 1, 2020:  The rail maintenance work was being done at a section where I had a good look of them.  Took the opportunity to sketch for about 10 minutes.  It was enough to document what I saw that day.

Draw the hand

In April, after a month and a half into the pandemic "stay at home" order,  I found it was a good practice to draw the hand many times over.  It was fun trying out different ways and come up with the hand drawings.
