Drawing people isn't natural for me.  It's just a skill I need to learn more.  With some hesitation, I started sketching people from the TV talk shows I regularly watch. At the rate I was going, I couldn't possibly make the 100 people.  Today, however, I changed my strategy to draw tiny people sketches.  53 people sketches from dining at Dig Inn, Rye Ridge Shopping Center and 43 people sketches at the Stamford Mall.  Thus, I was able to fit in 96 people sketches on one sheet(back to back) of Strathmore Toned Tan, 5.5 in x 8.5 in paper. And that brought me over the top!

Snowy Day

The second Nor'easter hit our area in a span of just 5 days.  It appears to be dumping heavy wet snow and strengthening as the day wore on.  I'm stuck at home so why not experiment with watercolor?  No pencil line.  Dabbled a layer of watered down mix at first, then layering over some more.  Finally, put in ink after and some white gouache for a touch of snow.  That's it.  I'm happy with the results.

Last Sunday was my second time doing a Dr. Sketchy's themed event, "Floating World", at the Flute Champagne Bar in New York city.  Figure sketching isn't my strong suit but I would like to get better at it.  The place was packed and event well attended.  I see four of us NYC Urban Sketchers present there.  Here's a couple pages of my work.  Sketches done in ink and water-soluble graphite (that chunky one in the goodie bag from the 8th USK Symposium in Chicago). 

Sketching the Dog

I caught sight of Sage licking that injection area, a small shaven part of her front left leg from the last visit at the vet.  I tried sketching her but she moved as soon as I was making headway.  She turned her head left.  Can't you just sit still for a minute?  I marked the line but before I could finish, she decided to rest her head forward center.  Oh well, by adding some color, you can see what I mean.

A Messy Desk

The Nor'easter is making a mess outside.  Rain, wind, but no snow. Inside, here's a messy home office desk. I have to sketch it.

Jar Label Recycling

In emptying the dishwasher this morning, I found the RAO's label mostly intact and easily peeled off the jar.  Could it be a good paper to play with?  Back to Google Maps view and playfully marked down the lines. Finally adding colors from my DS Essentials 6 color palette.  It was okay and I think I like what I'm seeing!

Think about the possibility of ruining a nice ink sketch by adding some watercolor to it... (I've seen it happen many times, I'm averse to doing it).  Well, as they say, the more you practice the better it gets. So that's what I'm doing here. Practice(3x). 

I'm playing with the six colors in my DS Watercolor Essentials set and I very much like the waterproof fountain pen ink!
