The Star Shoe Repair in GCT
Martha and Jenny work at keeping the Star Shoe repair business inside the Grand Central Terminal. This one is located along the East Side ramp from the Lower Level. The sketch was done earlier in the year. I showed them the sketch so I can attach a name to the figures. Of course, not the patron who was having his shoe polished. And yes, there are still gentlemen who likes shiny shoes.

I'm sure "the suits" keep them fairly busy at times during the day. I sketched that scene a few years back and was tempted the last time to do another. Your sketch is really great! I saw the article about the decline in their business. Hopefully it will pick up again when more businesses come back to the city.Is the one by the NY Public Library still there? Jerry always liked to stop there if he was wearing actual shoes and not sneakers.
ReplyDeleteLike you, I have always wanted to sketch this scene until I got it done. Not sure about the NYPL location if they're still there. Thanks, Joan, for stopping by.
