Third Week of July 2018: Part II

Thursday, July 19

This day marked the official start of the many workshops.  I bought two yellow raffle tickets (#48 & #49).  The first one would turn out to be my winning number some two days later.

I took the morning workshop with Ian Fennelly and the afternoon demo with Pedro Laureiro.  Really amazed at what they do!

Later that evening, Anne and I explored the neighborhood of Batalha and stumbled into this local restaurant where the tables and chairs are made out of the cork tree!  First time seeing a cork tree wood material complete with the cork bark layer.  I was very much fascinated by this material.  Even tried to sketch it while waiting for our food!

Cork bark layer that is effective in sealing wine bottles.

The charming cafe & restaurant.  A great find!

Made a couple of quick sketches on our way home as we passed by the Majestic Cafe and the Municipal Theater.  We didn't mind the long walk that evening.  Our knees and legs are starting to complain.
